here is a small post to show you how i've done to hide wires from shoulders to motors through legs, ankles and feet.
I've done this job just before the event facts2011, i didn't want to go to an event with wires on the outside of the body or legs. I think others builders can be interested into this post...so here it is :
the mean idea is to completely hide wires into parts, and give a good protection to wires.
the first step is to draw 3 lines : a first horizontal line with the droid on 2 legs and 2 others lines with the leg completely tilted forward and backward.
then i've drilled a hole through the top of the foot and into the ankle. this hole must be under the tilted lines and not too close to the axis hole.
this drill is too small for the wire, so it must be enlarged
I wanted to be able to put my r2 on 2 legs or 3 legs, so the holes for the wires in the feet and ankles must take this into account.
I've drilled a second hole into the ankle with the ankle tilted (to do that you have to drill at the same place on the foot but with the ankle tilted now)
After this job, you will probably need to enlarge the hole in the ankle to allow your wire go through
and now, the protection around the wires :
I've used 12 gauge Red/Black Zip Cord (with Automotive grade "GPT" PVC insulation which is oil & gas resistant)
I've add a black sheathing around the wire and a second woven sheathing over the other (sheathing found in electronics shop)
the last test with the wire through the hole on the foot, going into ankle and leg before mounting the battery box and the foot drive.
I've connected at each end of the wires some powerpole connectors to be able to remove easily the motors or the legs from the body without tools.
I've tested this configuration during 2 days at the event facts2011 with r2 running a lot without problems.
